Peter Martell is a journalist, broadcaster and photographer in East Africa working on a longer project on South Sudan.

Since 2005, he has been based in Yemen, Eritrea, Egypt, Sudan, South Sudan and Kenya, and reported from across Africa.

He was AFP's News Editor from 2011-2016 for East Africa and the Indian Ocean.

He splits his time between Nairobi, Juba and Northumberland.
